24 hour news

Today I will celebrate the fact we now have 24hour news available. Even though CNN was the first station of its kind started back in 1980...24 hour news has become quite commonplace. Headline News, FoxNews, MSNBC, just to name a few...and if you go online then who knows how many are available. here are a few links...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CNN , http://www.cnn.com/ , http://www.msnbc.msn.com/ , http://www.foxnews.com/ , http://www.aindianews.com/ , http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/default.stm , I have some issues with CNn since they announced a friend of mines death before his wife and kids knew back in the mid eighties so most of my 24 hour news I get from Fox.

23 and a Billion

I find it interesting that the number 23 can be associated witha Billion Dollars...How? you ask...well, I discovereded that Benjamin Harrison, the 23rd President of the United States was also the first President to sign an appropriations bill for a Billion Dollars. Take in mind this was in the 1890's. Wow...Take a look at some of the things he had part in. http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/presidents/BenjaminHarrison/ http://www.presidentbenjaminharrison.org/ http://books.google.com/books?id=5mLuIx6z1qcC&dq=Benjamin+Harrison&printsec=frontcover&source=bl&ots=bJyDNkBq-A&sig=iuDOG2rngxO4OF8RWSKkyHDFY7s&hl=en&ei=RniiSfHQL6KBtweX4uSPDQ&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=4&ct=result#PPP1,M1

Did you know? Electric lights were installed in the White House during his term. His wife never turned them on because she was frightened of the switches. He also signed the Sherman Anti-Trust Act to protect us from monopolies... Still a very key piece of legislation today.

Still more trivia... His VP Levi Morton, whom I had never heard of was also pretty interseting...http://www.juntosociety.com/vp/morton.html ...

22 and 2

TwentyTwo was the first caliber of firearms I have fired outside of .177 caliber BB's. It was at Boy Scout Camp back in the day...Now you have a hard time trying to be able to teach responsible marksmanship even to a ROTC class in a high school. My daughter had to learn marksmanship with her military class using BB's and Pellets. I know you can teach basics and there is even Air Rifle still in the Olympics. Unfortunately she decided she didn't like the coach or taking orders or the whole structure thing...she loved the shooting and was even one of the top shooters in her class...so in keeping with this theme I uphold the 2nd amendment to the Constitution of the United States... http://www.saf.org/ http://nra.com/ http://patriotshop.us/ http://www.usconstitution.net/consttop_2nd.html http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.billofrights.html http://www.guncite.com/ http://www.secondamendment.net/

Nineteen...reasons

Wow, this is something I can follow...nineteen reasons to take a nap. http://www.besthealthmag.ca/embrace-life/article/19-reasons-to-take-a-nap AND it apparently is GOOD for you... Imagine that...now if only I could find the time. As you can see this month; I am relating each date with its number and trying to tie it in to something to do with the number... Oh, here are a couple more links that are related to " nineteen" : http://www.whnt.com/ ( in Alabama) , http://www.woio.com/ ( in Ohio) , http://www.wltx.com/ ( in SouthCarolina) and lastly there is always Steely Dan's " Hey Nineteen" from back in 1980 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hey_Nineteen , http://www.last.fm/music/Steely+Dan/_/Hey+Nineteen ,

Seventeenth in history

This day in history, On Feb 17th 1864, the first submarine sinking of a U.S. ship occurred... see the CSS Hunley... http://www.coastalndt.com/hunley.html , http://www.hunley.org/ , http://www.history.navy.mil/branches/org12-3.htm , http://www.civilwardays.com/hunley.html ,

Sixteen golfers or Spirograph

I believe this was supposed to represent some sort of mathematical problem representing whether or not sixteen golfers could play in foursomes for five days, but it reminds me of my old Spirograph set. http://www.maa.org/editorial/mathgames/mathgames_08_14_07.html

Happy Day to my Valentines

Another sweetday for my sweets. Yes they got candy and flowers,,,and this year a ruby glass vase...well I hope it shows up. It was all the rage on the Hannity show, so I thought I would get one for her, but guess what it hasn't showed up yet. They said they will mail it and also give me a free glass vase the next time I order flowers. Well she will have a birthday later...hmmm...

What to do with my 13

Well, ain't this quaint? Today the stimulus is supposed to pass totally...on the 13th...I understand that as part of the tax reductions?!?? I might see about $13 more on my weekly paycheck. Boy that really stimulates me. What ever shall I do with my additional $13. Thought I might take the family out to eat...nah...not enough...Movies?? Not at $9 a pop... ( plus popcorn and drinks and jujubes or somesuch) Maybe if I went by myself... Nope can't think of a thing.. Oh I could buy some beer or cigarettes... oh unless they start jacking up the taxes on that...then I might be less inclined... Oh I don't know...Let me know if you can think of anything stimulating to do with $13...

Well, no matter what you call it...congress has just given us more Pork. I don't know about this new "Stimulus" plan, but I understand there to be a load of pork in it. I just wish it was as filling... Leave it up to the Democrat congress to "pork" us...

Looking at things differently

In the current spirit of giving credit where credit is due, I came across a really good film that touches and makes you think about things a little bit differently, sort of thinking outside of the box... http://www.hbo.com/films/stlm/ Something The Lord Made... While I have never really been an Alan Rickman fan, I thought his role with Mo Def was really well done.

In keeping with Dopey

Since it appears a time for Dopey folks ...lol... I thought it timely to remind folks that on this day in history...1938 to be exact...Snow White was released in theaters for the first time from Walt Disney. An American classic born. Hey, have a nice day... and here are a couple of links for new things Disney

Carolina embarassed???

Well, isn't it something...Michael Phelps makes history again...First as a record breaking olympic swimmer...a feat which I don't suppose will be broken any time soon. But now as an embarrassment to South Carolina...was that a "Bong"" and what was in it? But I hear that a sheriff is considering charges against him...I don't think there is a law against having your picture taken...even with paraphernalia. (If they don't actually have it.) There are laws against selling , distributing, possession, trafficking( see selling and distributing) but as for having your picture made with it or even just having a "hit" I don't think there is. I am sorry he was acting like a teenager doing something a few of our Presidents have done. Well, can he file charges aginst Bill Clinton...he said he did it but just didn't inhale...oh, I forget what about our current President? I believe he inhaled a few times...http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/12/17/obama-smoking-picture-and_n_151787.html

This does not imply that I approve, but sometimes we get outraged over somethings that are best handled not in the limelight.

Cold Snap

Well...Global Warming...not so in Kentucky or in a whole lot of other places I see. Not too bad in Fla or Ga but still cooler. Just an observation. By the way this day in history...Feb. 2, 1046: There's a 400-Year Nip in the Air ( http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2009/02/dayintech_0202 )

Just another case of history repeating itself....
