Zeus, Deuce or DZUS

Here is an interesting fastener. It is called a Dzus fastener. It is a quarter turn fastener. The screw part always stays there but can be released by a quarter turn. Pretty neat, also used in racing. Tomorrow the tool we use to open and close the Dzus. It is called a "snoopy" tool.

very Riveting

Riveting... it's what I do. Rivets are solid little fastener's shaped like solid pins. They come in different lengths and diameters as well as a variety of material hardnesses. I usually use alluminum and or steel rivets. You can go to wikipedia for more info... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivet Rivets are quite commonplace in aircraft building as well as other sheetmetal applications. I have also seen them used in the manufacture of trailers and some campers. Here are some videos on the subject... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5DVPG8go4Jk , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpY8DEXD2g0 , and how they're made... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36ipLKiQ11M . Enjoy

Putting in the buttons

Here are Cleco pliers used for installing the Cleco fasteners sometimes also referred to as "buttons" So you may also call these pliers "button pliers" ... Very handy for working with sheetmetal.

What is a Cleco?

Today we begin learning about the tools I use daily. What is a Cleco? A Cleco is a spring-loaded fastener used to temporarily hold two pieces of sheetmetal together until they can be permanently joined together. Usually they will be riveted or bolted together with precision fasteners but more lately they could be joined by a bonding process. But I mostly rivet the pieces together. Thus... the cleco. Named for the manufacturer. They really are quite handy.

Some of the places where you can get some are http://www.yardstore.com/ , http://www.spenro.com/ , http://www.aircraft-tool.com/ , http://www.browntool.com/ , or http://www.toolsforaircraft.com/ There are more places even on http://www.ebay.com/ as well. I hope you enjoyed this little tidbit on Cleco's.

Schools

Well, my class is done. Another chapter completed. Now just waiting for the grades to come out. This should be the last class I needed for my AAS degree. It has been 30 years in the making. wheeew. I hope the next part doesn.t take 30 more. Just a few of the schools I have gone to in the process. http://www.uah.edu/ http://www.calhoun.edu/ http://www.erau.edu/ http://www.albanytech.edu/ http://www.savannahtech.edu/ http://www.gvtc.org/ If I don't move too many more times I may actually get this next part done much sooner. Time to get started. Well maybe I will rest a spell...

Recycling

Hi, todays' comments are on recycling. I had to turn in a proposal to class for my assignment and I chose to propose recycling awareness and suggesting that collection points be set up on campus. They can even turn a profit by selling back to pulpers. I will post more but to give yo a flavor for what some schools are doing to promote recycling watch the following vids... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt94dzUjCQM

Enjoy them, but think about their message too. Paper or plastic? Paper please...

Class is nearly done

Well folks, my class is nearly done. I have learned a few things about making sure that you tailor your communications to your audience, conducting an audience survey and other checklists for creating certain types of documents. I have created a couple of imaginary companies such as Homer's Honey and Manbuggies. I liked the concept of both of them. I named the Honey company Homer's after a nickname I have for my daughter. I figured since I like honey and it is a good for you type of food, that I could elaborate and create a sales brochure. It didn't turn out too bad. I didn't like the limits that my template had so if I ever create a new brochure it will probably be a little more elaborate. It was rather simple and kept to the facts. I feel I should have added a fews more graphic devices to grab attention, but it was still fairly appealing. Manbuggies...well that is for another day. That concept is something I am still working out, since there might be some actual profitmaking potential there. I have a few more designs to work out. Hey...Have a nice day. George

It is a beautiful day...

I changed the time on my clock last night, and even though I lost an hour I woke to a beautiful day refreshed and thanking God for the days that I have. I know we sometimes take for granted our daily toil and forget to remember that we aren't promised a tomorrow. I decided today was new and worthy of being enjoyed. I think everyone should do that at least occasionally. If you do, then perhaps it will come easier and more often. God bless and have a great day.

Reflecting on types of communication

Todays assignment: Reflect on what you have learned in class. Well I have learned that bigger is not always better and you should try to keep your communications simple and to the point. When using visual aids ( heretofore known as "visuals") you should only use them to enhance or emphasise points in your message. You don't want them to distract but to attract.

Remembering the old days...times, they are a changin...

Hello, just trying to keep current. A friend of mine sent me a link http://oldfortyfives.com/ On the site there are a few real cool flash videos to remind us of how things used to be. I remember alot of this stuff. Check it out. See if you know any of the stuff. If you don't ...think of it as an informal history lesson that is fun. Enjoy.
