Technology can bring ethical considerations..

I had to answer a question for class today regarding "technology and whether business can be blinded to ethical considerations because of it". I believe it has become rather easy to look the other way, too easy in fact. People look at you funny when you say lyou are going to buy a computer program, CD or DVD because they go hey why are you doing that, why don't you go see so and so, he can burn you a copy... or something like that. This can be for something as little as I like a particular song ( you used to be able to get from Napster...) or I want to make a copy of my DVD because I don't want it to get scratched up. Don't get me wrong I think technology is great. I can still remember what it was like not to have it, but I don't think my kids can. I just think people ought to consider what is the right thing to do when these times or opportunities come about.

Subject today: Business Ethics

I am now enrolled in a Business Ethics class. I feel it a worthwhile activity to invest in a little knowledge of how your company is viewed by the public and what your responsibilities should be. Not only because there are legal limits or political concerns but it is in most everyone's interest to do what is right. In today's society and corporate world it is imperative that social responsibility follow. My company Gulfstream has a very defined policy of what is considered ethical as well as many of the previous companies I have worked for. Today I am learning that even as a first line supervisor you can be view as a public affairs representative for your firm. Your actions speak louder than words many times so you need to not just say you know the policy but heed it as well.

Back in school again...

Well, I am back in school again. I am afraid that if I take a quarter off it will be too easy to not go back and finish. After all I started this quest in 1977. One day I shall hold the sheepskin in my hand... :) I wonder what color it will be? Just kidding, :) i do look forward to getting my degree before my kids do.

Independence Day

I hope everyone had an enjoyable Independence Day. I went to Tybee Island for the 4th and watched the fireworks. Very spectacular and big. Right over the pier. The only drawback to watching them on the island is that for the return trip back home there is thousands of folks attempting to leave down the two lane road at the same time. Stop, go,stop, go etc... so....enjoyed Spanky's fabulous chicken fingers while I waited for the traffic to die down. Wished I would have waited a bit longer. two hours later there was still heavy traffic. Still, the show was very nice.. Happy Independence day everybody. Remember Freedom isn't free though.
